Putting PSYchology into ciTY Development

What is Psyty Development?

Psyty Development is an idea that combines aspects of psychology and city development. Cities are not just made of buildings, roads, and parks—cities are mainly made of the people that live in them. Instead of just planning cities from the top down, we need to develop them from the bottom up. We need to work on the “Psyty”, the psychological, mental, social, and human aspects of our cities.
After all, cities are our home and they are growing. In order to tackle the many environmental challenges we are facing, we will need to establish a healthier relationship between us, our cities, and with the environment and nature as a whole. Psyty Development is an attempt to lay the groundwork to aid this shift in thinking and perspective. By approaching urban development form the perspective of urban/environmental psychology, Psyty Development hopes to inspire everyone into realizing that they are not just a cog in the machine, but an active member of society that can shape the present and future of their own city.

The face behind Psyty Development

My Name is Addi Wala and I am a Vienna-based urban & environmental psychologist. I enjoy life in all of its aspects and hope to contribute to a sustainable environment, so that future generations will be able to do so as well. Since I find almost everything interesting, I have developed into a Jack of All Trades and typically find myself in interdisciplinary projects that combine theoretical/scientific and practical/developmental work.
